With UFC 300 on the horizon, five sets of fighters marched into the Octagon to close out Saturday's action at the UFC APEX, with middleweights Brendan Allen and Chris Curtis sending us on to next weekend's historic pay-per-view at T-Mobile arena with a classic back-and-forth battle.

After an entertaining collection of fights on the prelims, things stayed electric through the main card, highlighted by a couple grimy, gruelling contests and a walk-off knockout win before the ranked stalwarts wrapped things up.

Charlie Campbell defeats Trevor Peek by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

Charlie Campbell used his technical superiority in the striking realm to register his second consecutive UFC victory, besting Trevor Peek in the main card opener.

The Longo and Weidman MMA man refused to get into a brawl with the chaos agent Peek, opting instead to lean on his fundamentals and take what was available to him throughout the contest, battering the lead leg and shifting up his targets with his punches.

There were dicey moments where Peek swung wild and landed, but the New York native did well to turn to his grappling, stem the tide, and secure the win.

“The Cannibal” has now earned back-to-back wins to start his UFC tenure and three straight victories overall since his loss on Dana White’s Contender Series. This was a gutsy effort against a dangerous opponent, and a positive building block for the promising prospect. | Official Scorecards

Ignacio Bahamondes defeats Christos Giagos by KO (head kick) at 3:34 of Round 1

Ignacio Bahamondes got himself back in the win column in style, connecting on a walk-off head kick knockout over Christos Giagos.

After using his superior length and diverse arsenal of strikes to snipe at “The Spartan” throughout the opening stanza, including a beautiful spinning back kick that landed flush, Bahamondes went high towards the end of the opening round.

He landed “flush to the mush” as Michael Bisping said during the replay of the connection, putting Giagos on the canvas, where it was clear no follow-up shots were needed.

The 26-year-old Contender Series graduate landed on the wrong side of the cards last time out, but rebounded in style, laying out Giagos for his fourth UFC victory and third stoppage win inside the Octagon. | Official Scorecards

Chepe Mariscal (29-28, 29-28) defeats Morgan Charriere (30-27) by split decision

Make it three straight inside the Octagon for Chepe Mariscal.

The durable veteran stepped in on short notice, replacing SeungWoo Choi, and landed on the happy side of the split decision verdict, showing his trademark toughness and indefatigable spirit. Based in Denver, “Machine Gun” leaned on his conditioning to edge out Charriere down the stretch of the final round, likely salting away the victory with a late push in the closing minute of the contest.

A regional staple that fought a tough slate on his road to the Octagon, Mariscal has now posted a trio of wins to begin his time on the big stage. Now riding a six-fight winning streak overall, a step up in competition should be in the offing for the streaking featherweight next time out. | Official Scorecards

Damon Jackson (29-28, 29-28) defeats Alexander Hernandez (30-27) by split decision

Damon Jackson and Alexander Hernandez fought like two men that don’t like each other much, waging war with one another for 15 minutes in Saturday’s lightweight co-main event.

The rivals ran close to level throughout, each man having moments on the feet and the canvas in the first two rounds before arriving in a clinch battle for the back half of the third after trading time in back mount to begin the frame. Jackson was a shade sharper on the ground, but Hernandez landed the bigger individual shots throughout, including dropping the veteran from Texas in the opening seconds of the final stanza.

Brendan Allen (48-47, 49-46) defeats Chris Curtis (48-47) by split decision

Familiar foes Brendan Allen and Chris Curtis met for a second time in the main event, with the streaking standout from Louisiana drawing level in the series and collecting his seventh consecutive victory.

For 25 minutes, the middleweights battled tooth-and-nail, with Allen starting strong in all facets and Curtis working back into the fight as the Louisiana native started to fade. On the feet, each man had their moments, but when Allen looked to wrestle and mix things up, he frequently dragged the veteran to the canvas, working to his back, only for Curtis to reverse position and work free.

In the final moments of the fight, Curtis rose to his feet, clutching at the back of his leg, having seemingly suffered an injury, giving Allen the opportunity to attack through the horn.

The battle-hardened duo went the distance, and when the scores were collected, the streaking Allen ended up on the happy side of the decision. That’s now seven straight wins for the Contender’s Series graduate, who continues to shine as he works forward in the division. | Official Scorecards
