VERSUS to air broadcast of Fighters Only World MMA Awards Thursday, Dec 9 at 10pm ET/7pm PT

Las Vegas, NV (USA) – Roughly one week removed from receiving his new UFC featherweight title from UFC President Dana White, Brazilian sensation Jose Aldo felt like the holidays came early this year. Little did the 24-year-old know that UFC gold wouldn’t be the only honor he’d receive to close out 2010.

Aldo was named Fighter of the Year at the 2010 Fighters Only World MMA Awards on Wednesday, Dec. 1. The 18-1 fighter accepted the award at a special ceremony held at The Pearl at the Palms Casino in Las Vegas, Nev.

VERSUS will broadcast the event on Thursday, Dec. 9 at 10pm ET/7pm PT.

Nominated with the likes of UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar, UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva and UFC light heavyweight champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, Aldo was deeply humbled to be crowned Fighter of the Year.

“I was truly honored to receive such an award,” said Aldo, who defeated Mike Brown to capture the world title last November and followed up by scoring impressive victories over Urijah Faber and Manny Gamburyan this year. “I’m fortunate to train with some of the very best fighters in the world and to be coached by a legend in Andre Pederneiras. I have to give a lot of credit to my family and my team for helping me to achieve this award.”
