Bruising Wins by Miranda and Cannetti get UFC 190 Underway

MIRANDA vs. HESTER

Rio’s Vitor Miranda, a heavyweight finalist on The Ultimate Fighter Brazil 4, made it two straight wins at middleweight, scoring a second round TKO over Clint Hester.

Hester (11-5) got the bout to the mat in the opening minute of the fight, but after controlling matters for a bit, Miranda reversed position and began teeing off with strikes, cutting the American as he ripped off several clean left hands to the face.

Again looking to make this a ground fight, Hester was rebuffed repeatedly by Miranda (12-4), and in the sequence that determined the outcome of the fight, “Lex Luthor” tossed his opponent to the canvas, and after an initial barrage of ground strikes didn’t do the job, a second flurry moments later finished the fight, referee Herb Dean stepping in at the 2:38 mark.
CANNETTI vs. VIANA

Argentina’s Guido Cannetti earned his first Octagon win in the bantamweight opener, outpointing Rio’s Hugo “Wolverine” Viana in a clash of former Ultimate Fighter competitors.

Scores were 29-28 across the board.

A tight close round didn’t produce a definitive winner, but some good clinch work and a late spinning kick to the body by Cannetti likely earned him the frame. The back and forth action continued in the second, Cannetti appearing to take an early lead thanks to a jarring head kick, but Viana roaring back late with a takedown and some hard ground strikes.

In the third, Cannetti continued to have success tagging Viana with flush blows, but his tendency to then grapple with his foe allowed the Brazilian to recover and get back into the fight. Ultimately though, this strategy didn’t hurt the Argentine battler, who moves to 7-3. Viana falls to 8-4.
