LAS VEGAS, June 19 – The journey of Court McGee from drug addict to The Ultimate Fighter reality show was well-documented. Saturday night at The Pearl at The Palms, his inspiring tale had a fitting finish, as he submitted Kris McCray in the second round to win the season 11 title and a UFC contract.

Now the next chapter begins for the Utah native. But first, there was the business of tonight’s fight, and McGee was on point from start to finish against the game McCray.

After some standup to begin the bout, McGee took control as soon as the fight hit the mat, landing with ground strikes until McCray was able to get back on his feet and fire off punches. McGee immediately closed the gap though, taking his foe right back to the mat. The resilient McCray worked himself upright, and resumed swinging away, but his defense was porous and McGee countered him well until the bell.

McCray did some good body work as the fighters locked up to start round two, but McGee’s takedowns were proving to be a tough hurdle for “Savage” to overcome. On the mat, McGee looked for a choke from the mount position, and when that didn’t work, he took his foe’s back, but McCray used that opening to get back on his feet. That moment standing was short lived, as McGee scored another takedown. “The Crusher” proceeded to take McCray’s back again, and this time he closed the show, sinking in a rear naked choke that produced a tap out at the 3:41 mark of the second round.

With the win, McGee improves to 11-1; McCray falls to 6-1.
