Biografia

TRAINING: No day is typical, but generally there’s a lot of mitt work, conditioning, drilling and rolling. I keep pretty busy.

When and why did you start training for fighting? I have a lot of pent up rage from being the nerdy kid, and I wanted to unleash some of that. I met up with my coaches about a year ago (April, '06) and they tested me out. I kept getting better and they took me under their wings to mold me into the fighter I am today. They're my big brothers, beating on me until I get better. I owe a lot of my success to them.

Accomplishments in amateur competition? NY National Team Cadet Greco-Roman 2002

Accomplishments in pro competition?
NABC MMA World Welterweight Champion

Ranks in any martial arts styles:
None

Favorite grappling technique:
Skull breaking elbow.

Favorite Striking technique:
Jaw breaking knee.

Do you have any heroes?
Sifu Kevin Seaman, Erik Charles, Jared Palmer

What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC?
It goes to show that you should never judge a book by its cover. A year ago, everyone was like "what are you doing? You're not going to make it". Now I've made it to the biggest organization in the sport and it is a great feeling achieving a goal you set forth for yourself. I achieved something that most thought would never be possible for me. When I got the call and the contract, I was ecstatic but not shocked. I knew I would make it, and I always believed in myself. I have found myself. This is my calling.

Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn?
Earned a BS in Kinesiology with a concentration in Fitness Development, and a minor in Exercise Science from SUNY Cortland

What was your job before you started fighting?
Student, library worker, mopping mats at CNYMMA.

 • Pro since 2006

• Took five-year break from MMA from 2009 to 2014

• 2-0 since last UFC appearance, with one KO and one submission lasting a combined 1:27

• Eight wins by KO, four by submission (armbar, 2 triangle, RNC)

• Eight first round finishes

• Origin of nickname: “I used to train in a Morton building on the outskirts of Cortland, NY, where there were abandoned barns and feral cats that would be getting into the dumpsters. Marty, "The One Man Party," told us that Barn Cats are pound-for-pound the most ferocious animals alive. Like if you had a 1000-pound Barn Cat vs. a 1000-pound Bear, the Barn Cat would easily kill it. In fact, if you had a Barn Cat that was equal in size to a shark, the Barn Cat would kill a shark... in the water! My coaches watched me bludgeon my opponent in my first fight with absolutely no technique at the time, and they decided I was to be "The Barn Cat." I hated it at first, but when I got announced at my second fight some drunks in the back were screaming "Kick his ass, Barn Cat!" and I never looked back since. People used to knock my name, now f**kers are trying to rip it off and use it for themselves. That's why I'm "THE BARN CAT," emphasis on the "THE." Just like The Highlander, there can only be one, the original, Tamdan "THE Barn Cat" McCrory.
