Biografia

TRAINING: I work a desk job Mon-Fri, so to maintain a two-a-day training regimen I utilize my lunch hour for cardio-type training. Then one to three hours at my gym after work for technical training or sparring.

When and why did you start training for fighting? I started doing a little jiu-jitsu maybe about 18 years ago, when I was 12-13 years old. But I usually don’t count that as “how long” I’ve been training since it was mostly grappling with my older brother. He is nine years older than me, so it was more of a forced training at first. He would get home from the gym and want to test out moves he had learned. He eventually started taking me with him to the gym and I would get to watch and practice with some of the adults. He trained with Yves Edwards and competed in Vale Tudo, jiu-jitsu competitions, and professional MMA back in 1998-1999. I remember once grappling Yves Edwards when I was a kid. Fast forward 10-12 years, I found out about Draculino and his gym in Clear Lake in 2009. This is when I started training seriously. I would show up for all the classes they offered, gi, no-gi, MMA, wrestling, Muay Thai, and boxing. After training there for two years, my wife was the one that really encouraged me to compete in MMA and follow that path if it was something I wanted to do. I don’t think I would have started competing in MMA if it wasn’t for her encouragement. It takes a lot of confidence to step into a cage and do what we do.

What ranks and titles have you held? Various 1st place medals as a white/blue belt in gi and no-gi jiu-jitsu competitions, Legacy Amateur 135lb titleholder, Legacy Pro 125lb title holder. Currently a four-stripe Brown Belt in BJJ

Do you have any heroes? Jesus

What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? It really means a lot. I’ve been working towards this for over a decade. However, I will not be satisfied with just fighting for the UFC. I want to keep climbing the rankings to a UFC title shot and win the belt.

Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? Bachelors of Science in Mathematics with 6-12 Teacher Certification

What was your job before you started fighting? Prior - High School Math Teacher & Special Education Teacher. Current – Actuarial Analyst (First person in the UFC from the Actuarial Profession)
