Dongi YangTRAINING: I usually run in the mornings, do MMA (wrestling, BJJ and striking) in the afternoons, and conditioning in the evenings. I like to rest on the weekends. When I lift I don't do individual body parts, I do deadlifts and other complex movements. Kimmons is well-versed on the ground, but also likes to brawl, so we've been working on a little bit of everything for this fight.
When and why did you start training for fighting? I started training MMA in 2007. I had been wanting to try MMA for a while, so when I finished my mandatory military service, the first thing I did the day I got out was to go and sign up at Korean Top Team and start training. What ranks and titles have you held? WXF Heavyweight Tournament Champion, Yong Moo Do Heavyweight Champion. Do you have any heroes? Mike Tyson. When I was younger he was the greatest. What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? The UFC is the center of the MMA universe right now, so obviously, I'm really happy to have the opportunity to be here. I plan to make the most of it! I've always said that I wanted to be a world champion, and the UFC is the best organization in the world, so this is the place to do it. Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? Yes. I majored in East Asian Martial Arts. What was your job before you started fighting? In Korea all able-bodied men are supposed to serve in the military. So, I did my military service before I started fighting. Specific accomplishments in amateur competition? Undefeated in Yong Moo Do. (Yong Moo Do is a like a blend of Hapkido, Taekwondo and Judo.) Ranks in any martial arts styles: Judo 3rd degree black belt, Taekwondo 2nd degree black belt, Yong Moo Do 4th degree black belt.
