Benny AllowayTRAINING: For this fight I haven't changed things too much. I continued to improve all areas of my game by working just as hard as always. Generally, it's a type of conditioning in the mornings, such as strength, cardio etc. I then have my son for the middle part of the day and my late afternoon session usually focuses on different aspects of my MMA game.
When and why did you start training for fighting? I started training at the start of 2010 to get back in to shape to play soccer and tried a jiu-jitsu class. A week later I went to a fight night and was hooked. Four weeks later I jumped in the cage and had my first fight. What ranks and titles have you held? Currently the FATE MMA welterweight champion. BJJ blue belt under Jason Roebig from Rickson Gracie Jiu Jitsu Association. Do you have any heroes? My wife, my parents and my coaches are the people I look up to. What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? Being able to compete in the UFC means that the next chapter of my MMA journey has started. Every fight, every practice and every time I’ve spilled blood has led to this opportunity. Also, this allows me to spend the majority of my time at home with my wife and son in Australia. Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? N/A What was your job before you started fighting? Before MMA I was in the hospitality industry, managing nightclubs and cocktail bars. Specific accomplishments in pro competition? I won my first pro title within 12 months of starting MMA. Being a team member of the inaugural TUF Smashes Australian team.
