Biografia

When and why did you start training for fighting? I have been wrestling since birth.  Many of my competitors in that space have already made successful transitions over into this sport.  I want to make a positive impact in this world through the platform I gain in sport.  Heading into the 2012 Olympic Games, I felt this was my best path to becoming a world champion (childhood goal) and connect with the world.

What ranks and titles have you held? Canadian wrestler of the year 2009.  Commonwealth Games Gold Medalist 2012.  2012 Olympian (first Indian to represent Canada at the Olympics in Freestyle Wrestling).  Undefeated Pro MMA fighter, having won every single round I have fought in the cage. Accompanied Canadian Prime Minister as an official Ambassador of Sport as part of the government’s Trade mission to India. Recipient of the Queens Diamond Jubilee Medal

Do you have any heroes? My parents and grandfather for sacrificing daily for the life I have and the opportunity at hand.  Muhammad Ali for the impact he was able to have for humanity beyond sport.

What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? It is a great feeling. It’s validation that the game plan we set out in 2013 was the right one, and we are on track for greatness.  The UFC is the biggest organization in the world and I am excited to make my mark.

Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? I attended Simon Fraser University on a full ride scholarship, earning Athlete of the Year on campus in 2008, and graduating with a degree in Political Science.

What was your job before you started fighting? Olympic Wrestler.  I'm currently a wrestling coach at the University level in Canada.

Specific accomplishments in amateur competition? Five-time World Team member for Canada (Freestyle Wrestling), Pan Am Games Bronze Medalist, University World Championships Bronze Medalist, 2008 Athlete of the Year (Simon Fraser University), 2009 Canadian Wrestler of the Year, 2010 Commonwealth Games Gold Medalist, 2012 Olympian (first Indian to represent Canada in the Olympics in Freestyle Wrestling)
